2013 Wedding Trends No. 6 Prints & Patterns

On the horizon for 2013 we're expecting to see an array of prints and patterns. Lot's of fabulous chevron, polka dots, hounds-tooth and stripes will emerge in everything from linens to the wedding cake!
Adding patterns make a nice bold statement with minimal effort. It also adds another layer of depth to your design. A lot of our past brides have chosen elegant black and white. But don't be afraid of color! 2013 will be a year of color. Sometimes more is more. And patterns is one of those times.
So let your imagination run wild! and explore patterns and prints, mix and match, forget your inhibitions!

Jesi Haack a local orange county designer is wonderfully talented at using prints and patterns and we definitely recommend her blog for the most extraordinary design ideas! Like the fabulous ones below.

2013 Wedding Trends No.9 Minimalistic

Continuing our countdown of 2013 wedding trends is number nine; the minimalistic trend.
The minimalistic wedding where less is more...

If helvecta makes your heart pitter patter and graphic design is your "jam" then this may very well the wedding trend for you! Minimalism is any design or style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect. So in the case of weddings, it's reducing your reception to its necessary elements. It's pretty much the opposite of rustic/vintage weddings that have a million adorable nik naks everywhere. However if you're still totally obsessed with vintage as we are, this trend is a wonderful host to mid century mod components.
This trend fits perfectly in a gallery, a loft, or an industrial space. Simple lines, amazing graphics, and stunning pops of color make for an amazing minimalistic feast for the eyes.

DIY Wedding at The Muckenthaler

We're head over heels with this wedding, Nicole and Joshua were married at our very own Muckenthaler Mansion this past August and it's one of our favorites. After seeing this wedding in person we couldn't wait to get the photos and share it with all of you!

This wedding was a photographers dream, with a beautiful color palette, lots of texture and tons of details!
The bride herself was responsible for designing and creating all of the elements for her wedding day, and she did such a good job. Enjoy this feast for the eyes!

Rooftop Soiree

It's Wedding Wednesday again, and this week we're in love with Rooftop Weddings!
Imagine your ceremony with the skyline as your backdrop, or your reception under the stars without the restrictions of a park? Incredible, right?

We've been inspired by some beautiful weddings in the big apple, like this brightly colored wedding on top of the Rockefeller Center.

The Great Gatsby at The Muckenthaler

The Muckenthaler Mansion is a beautiful 1920's mansion located right here in Fullerton. It's full of art deco charm and makes a perfect setting for any wedding, but right now we're yearning for an art deco love fest! With The Great Gatsby film coming out this December we took a cue from the movie and created a inspiration board for our own roaring 20's wedding.

The Kelly Wedding

This wedding was beautifully shot by Perpixel Photography at The Muckenthaler Mansion. The couple had a great typewriting theme. Complete with centerpieces growing out of typewriters from Urban Gardener. One of the greatest features from the wedding was an over-sized automatic typewriter that continuously typed "Marry Me". It was lovingly hand built by the groom for his bride, and was an amazing statement piece of their love and certainly something they'll continue to cherish in their home.

The bride thought of every last detail using a "Type" font for all of their stationary including the paper napkins that were used at the bar and handed to guests with the tray passed appetizers.

A Beautiful Cake from our Cake Goddesses displayed with photos of the couple's parents' weddings.
Another successful dream wedding come true at

Strawberry Fields

It's Strawberry Season in southern California and that means delicious fresh strawberries are taking center stage in our kitchen.  Enjoy our wild baby greens salad with strawberries, feta, and champagne-orange vinaigrette, or try our chilled strawberry basil soup shooters for a savory addition to any meal. As an appetizer on the sweeter side enjoy freshly picked strawberries stuffed with ginger cream cheese and fresh mint. And of course, strawberries truly shine as dessert!  Our cake goddesses are taking advantage of the season with strawberry macrons, strawberry short cake, strawberry pie and chocolate dipped strawberries too!
Our mixologists are also joining in on the fun! You're guests will be pleasntly surprised to sip on our house-made strawberry tequila, a strawberry basil martini, or a refreshing strawberry and ginger cooler.
Cheers to Strawberry Season!

The Grilled Cheese

We just fell in love all over again with our favorite childhood sandwich, the grilled cheese. What was once as simple as white bread and cheddar cheese has gotten so much bolder, heartier, and tastier all those old feelings just came rushing back. And now we can't get enough! We're creating chefs stations where guests can choose their own cheese and an array of toppings. And we're going way past cheddar here(but of course we still love a good cave aged cheddar) with options like gruyere, brie, and ricotta this station is fun and exceptionally delicious.

But we're not stopping there! Oh no, we've fallen so head over heals we're serving up grilled cheese paired with a classic tomato soup for lunch and dinner

And we love this combo as a tray passed appetizers for cocktail hour too!
Share this nostalgic treat at your next event and you and your guests will fall head over heels in love all over again.

The New Cupcake in Town

So of course you know here at Colette's we already LOVE cupcakes, when the cake goddesses are making them who wouldn't?! But you may not know about our newest love affair with these cup sized cakes; we are mad about the newest food trend of savory cupcakes, Think more then actual cake and imagine lasagna made with fresh pasta, marinara, basil, Italian sausage, and fresh ricotta all in the adorable size of a cupcake!

For breakfast imagine a perfectly portioned quiche inspired cupcake with a butter flaky crust and light fluffy eggs all in the adorable packaging of a cupcake!
Or try another classic comfort food and have our gourmet meatloaf "frosted" with our garlic thyme mashed potatoes.
Savory " Cupcakes" are perfect for a hearty appetizer or with your main course.
Either way were that much closer to our dream of eating a cupcake at every meal...
