2013 Wedding Trends No.9 Minimalistic

Continuing our countdown of 2013 wedding trends is number nine; the minimalistic trend.
The minimalistic wedding where less is more...

If helvecta makes your heart pitter patter and graphic design is your "jam" then this may very well the wedding trend for you! Minimalism is any design or style in which the simplest and fewest elements are used to create the maximum effect. So in the case of weddings, it's reducing your reception to its necessary elements. It's pretty much the opposite of rustic/vintage weddings that have a million adorable nik naks everywhere. However if you're still totally obsessed with vintage as we are, this trend is a wonderful host to mid century mod components.
This trend fits perfectly in a gallery, a loft, or an industrial space. Simple lines, amazing graphics, and stunning pops of color make for an amazing minimalistic feast for the eyes.

DIY Wedding at The Muckenthaler

We're head over heels with this wedding, Nicole and Joshua were married at our very own Muckenthaler Mansion this past August and it's one of our favorites. After seeing this wedding in person we couldn't wait to get the photos and share it with all of you!

This wedding was a photographers dream, with a beautiful color palette, lots of texture and tons of details!
The bride herself was responsible for designing and creating all of the elements for her wedding day, and she did such a good job. Enjoy this feast for the eyes!

Eat Cake!

You've waited your whole life to get married, so why settle for  just one dream cake?
A new trend in wedding cakes is having multiples. This style of cakes creates a beautiful presentation for an outstanding cake table. This is a great option for couples with large and small guest counts, you just have to alter the size of the individual cakes based on the guest count. Multiple cakes allow the bride and groom to incorporate a variety of flavors and can be decorated individually or in unison to create an overall theme. Using a variety of stands of multiple heights will give your design flow and symmetry, making a dramatic overall presentation on your cake table.

The Ombre Cake

By far the most striking trend we've seen this wedding season has been the Ombre Cake. And as beautiful as it is we're hoping it doesn't go anywhere for a while!(Hint, hint to our cake goddesses: the blogger would like an ombre birthday cake ;) ) One of the great things about this cake trend, besides teaching everyone a new fabulous french word, is that it's completely customizable. This trend has been seen with so many different decorating techniques, that it fits everyone's personal style. Rosettes for the romantic, avant garde style for a dramatic look, or clean contemporary lines for the modern couple, and everything in between. We've collected some of our favorite interpretations of the trend below.

Rooftop Soiree

It's Wedding Wednesday again, and this week we're in love with Rooftop Weddings!
Imagine your ceremony with the skyline as your backdrop, or your reception under the stars without the restrictions of a park? Incredible, right?

We've been inspired by some beautiful weddings in the big apple, like this brightly colored wedding on top of the Rockefeller Center.

Christmas in July

It's July! and amidst this sweltering heat we're dreaming about the days of wearing sweaters. So we're celebrating Christmas in July with festive themed parties, holiday sound tracks, and (frozen) hot chocolate! If you too cant wait until December consider throwing your own Christmas in July party. It's actually much easier than hosting Christmas in December, much less pressure, and no gift exchange required. It can be even more fun and games by implementing an "Ugly Sweater" theme or providing all of your guests with Santa hats or reindeer antlers to wear. And if you're not quite ready to climb into the attic and unpack those boxes of decorations, it's the perfect time to buy decor at a discounted rate. There's always the great holiday section on Etsy with loads of items for parties, like these great printable invitations we found.
And it's a great time to visit your local goodwill. Goodwill's are full of seasonal decor right now and even better the cost will go to good cause which gives us even more of that holiday spirit we yearn for.

Another great reason for Christmas in July? Getting to eat holiday food of course!

We'll be making turkey and cranberry sauce (which means day after sandwiches as well!) with garlic mashed potatoes and candied yams for miles. And let's not forget about those fabulous seasonal cocktails we all love. Try eggnog on the rocks or our Candy Cane-tini.
Now all you need is a yule log and you're set!
And yes we will make them in july ;)
And for everyone who's not quite ready to celebrate, it's never too early to start planning your holiday party in the actual holiday season! We're offering 10% off your food and beverage plus a complimentary event upgrade if you book before September 1st.

Whimsical Summer Wedding at The Muckenthaler

Now that it's getting warmer those summer nights of festive dancing after dark under the bistro lights is nearly upon us. And we can't think of a better way to celebrate then with this midsummer wedding at our favorite venue the Muckenthaler Mansion! This couple chose to get a custom designed open air tent perfect for warm summer nights. The whole family worked together making and installing their own decor of handcrafted pom poms in pale yellow and gray creating a whimsical backdrop perfect for dancing the night away under!
The bride also crafted this adorable seating card holder out of ribbon and clothes pins

The cake was of course created by our fabulous Cake Goddesses, and we love how the ribbon on the cake mimics the brides sash!
